ELECTRON SPIN RESONANCE LABORATORY
Electron Spin Resonance (ESR) Spectrometer
For Electron Spin Resonance (ESR) technique; we can say, “It is a spectroscopic technique that uses the microwave region of the electromagnetic spectrum and helps us to identify quantum systems with unpaired electrons”.
The concept of magnetic resonance underlies Electron Spin Resonance. When a fixed magnetic field is applied, each of the magnetic moments behaves like a magnet and the energy levels are split into possible energy levels according to the spin values of the electrons. The energy difference between these levels is proportional to the Larmor frequency. The frequency of the alternative field applied for ESR is in the microwave region of the electromagnetic spectrum. When the microwave frequency is equal to the frequency of Larmor, resonance occurs and its energy is absorbed and the transition between energy levels occurs. The frequency in this case is called “resonance frequency” and the corresponding fixed magnetic field is called “resonance field”.
UV-VIS Spectrophotometer
Ultraviolet and visible light (UV-Vis) absorption spectroscopy is the measurement of the reduction of a beam after passing through a sample or reflected from a sample surface. The decrease in the intensity of the light indicates that absorption increases. For example, its concentration is found by measuring its absorption at a certain wavelength. UV-Vis spectroscopy is often used for measuring molecules or inorganic ions and complexes in the solution. Many molecules absorb UV or Vis wavelengths, and different molecules absorb different wavelengths. An absorption spectrum consists of many absorption bands that show the structure of the molecule.
