Undergraduate Education

Program Profile
(the purpose of the program, the structure of the program, the areas it is headed for, department possibilities)

The Undergraduate Physics program aims to train well-trained physicists for technical and professional fields in research institutes and industry.

The objectives of the undergraduate physics program,

  • To train students in science and mathematics to become professionals with knowledge and skills in order to understand physical systems,
  • Helping to improve students the ability to analyze, design and solve problems in physics and related disciplines,
  • To provide students the ability to make presentations, communicate in writing and verbally, access information from scientific sources, and work independently and as a team,,
  • To provide fundamental basis for graduate programs and lifelong learning.

For these purposes, after the infrastructure of classical physics was established in the first three semesters in the program, students take courses on modern physics from the fourth semester. Some of the last four semesters are courses such as quantum mechanics, solid state physics, electromagnetic theory, atomic and molecular physics. From the third semester, students have the opportunity to learn and learn many different areas of physics with the elective courses they prefer. Some of these elective courses are special relativity, renewable energy sources, optoelectronics, superconductivity, molecular modeling, and fundamental particles physics. Lessons are supported by modern educational materials.

Basic Program Achievements

  1. Understanding the basic concepts and laws of physics and the relationships between them.
  2. To gain the ability to express the subjects in a simple and understandable way by creating an infrastructure on the conceptual characteristics of the science of physics.
  3. To gain physical reasoning and problem solving skills by using the theoretical and applied knowledge.
  4. To gain competency to design, realize and evaluate experiments.
  5. To gain the ability to apply information technologies and current techniques to problems in physics.
  6. By following the importance of lifelong learning, following the developments in science and technology related to the field and related fields and constantly renewing itself
  7. Take responsibility, act independently and gain creative skills
  8. To be able to do disciplinary and interdisciplinary group studies, work effectively and use time effectively
  9. Accessing information from written, permanent, reliable and correct sources and using information sources

  11. To be able to use at least one foreign language effectively in a level to follow current developments and the related literature
  12. To gain awareness of professional and ethical responsibility

Employment Profiles of Graduates

Graduates of the Physics Department can work as researchers in universities and industrial institutions’ research and development laboratories, modern analysis and quality control laboratories, and as planners and health physicists in Oncology and Nuclear Medicine departments of hospitals. In addition, graduates who receive pedagogical training can also work as a physics teacher in public, private and foundation schools.
