Crystallography is the science that deals with the structure of crystals. The position of atoms in the material, which is one of the main factors in determining the properties of a material, is the main field of study of crystallography. X-ray crystallography is an interdisciplinary field of study and is frequently used in fields such as mineralogy and metallurgy, pharmacology, nanotechnology, chemistry.
X-ray Crystallography Laboratory was established in 2011 under the Physics Department of the Faculty of Science, Dokuz Eylül University. Agilent Xcalibur E diffraction device (diffractometer) was taken within the scope of the Scientific Research Project (BAP) (2010. KB.FEN.13).
Agilent Xcalibur E diffractometer is a reliable and precise measurement system used in determining the crystal structures of small molecules (organic, inorganic and metal-organic) and high-resolution electron density studies. It consists of a Molybdenum X-ray source, a goniometer that holds and directs the crystal sample, and a fast, highly sensitive EOS CCD detector. All data of the system is controlled by a computer. Apart from the main components, the Cryojet system connected to the liquid nitrogen tank, which enables the experiment at low temperature (up to 77 K), with the cooling systems that keep the X-ray tube and detector at a constant temperature of -40 ° C, also forms other parts of the diffractometer.
